ART ::  Ought Apartment by Reece Terris 

Ought Apartment is a six-storey art installation by local Reece Terris. Featuring six full-scale apartments stacked one upon the other, each apartment level is fully furnished exclusively with original items from the 1950s though to the present decade and includes a kitchen, living room and bathroom.

Each floor represents the look of one particular decade, thus becoming emblematic of that period's interior design and domestic living.  After months of construction, the show is finally taking place at the Vancouver Art Gallery, from now until September 20th.

SPOT :: The Keefer Hotel & Bar

Chinatown - the new hotspot? If the Keefer Hotel & Bar is any indication of what this neighbourhood is slowly developing into - than yes, my friends. Read on.

The building at 135 Keefer was originally built for the Vancouver Gas Company in 1910, and is undergoing a reported $6 Million Dollar facelift from Gair Williamson Architects. The hot new refurbished structure is a blend of natural brick, timber beams and double hung wood-sash windows.

The building contains 4 luxury boutique-style units, and a glass bottomed roof top pool. Not something you see everyday at the bottom of Strathcona. Battersby Howat (Davie Street's 1181 Lounge) is responsible for the high end esthetic of the bar; from it's dark, ominous interior to it's creative cocktails.

EVENT :: The East Side Cultural Crawl 

The annual 3 day event is a staple in the Strathcona neighbourhood which gives local artists the chance to display a wide selection of art, materials and tools that make up the fabric of the neighbourhood's artistic community.

A unique chance to meet and greet with artists across the board; painters, jewelers, sculptors, furniture makers, musicians... if it's art, and it's Strathcona - it'll be there. Or be square.

The annual event started in 1994, and has since grown to become a widely anticipated event with over 350 artists participating this year.

This year's event takes place from November 20-22nd. The Crawl is seeking a wide variety of voulenteers, from pre-event prep, fundraising events to event day shifts at the festivals Information Booth.
